The same rules as the sizing guide and the builder: 20 BTU per square foot, adjusted for ceiling height, insulation and sun. Every step of the math is on the tape.
Windows beyond two, more than two people, a kitchen and your climate add to the load. The builder asks for each of them.

Buying guide
Six things to know before you order.
The questions we answer on the phone every day, with the figures from the current catalog. Each one links to the page that goes deeper.
One room or several?
A single-zone system is one outdoor unit and one indoor head. A multi-zone outdoor unit runs two to six heads, and each room keeps its own control.
- Separate single-zone systems are simpler to install, and each one keeps running if another fails.
- A multi-zone condenser keeps the outside of the house tidy, but every head runs off one compressor and the manufacturer limits what the heads may add up to.
- The builder shows both kinds side by side when they fit your rooms.
How a heat pump heats
Every unit here heats and cools. In heating mode the refrigeration cycle runs in reverse and moves heat from the outdoor air into the house, and it keeps working well below freezing.
- The spec sheets rate heating down to −22 °F for Hyper Outdoor, Hyper Heat and PEAQ units, −13 °F for Regular Outdoor units and 5 °F for Mia NY units.
- In a northern house the heating load is usually the bigger number, and it decides the outdoor unit.
- Check the rating on the page of the unit you pick; the line comparison above shows each line's limit.
115 V or 230 V?
115 V units run on an ordinary household circuit, which can save running a new 240 V line. 208 to 230 V units need a dedicated breaker.
- 115 V units come in the smaller sizes: 6K to 60K BTU here.
- Check the minimum circuit ampacity in the unit's spec table against the circuit you plan to use.
- Pair a 115 V head with a 115 V outdoor unit.
DIY or licensed install?
Mounting, wiring and running the line set are within reach of a capable DIYer. The refrigerant connection, vacuum and charge should be done by a licensed HVAC technician in most states, and most warranties require it.
- Keep the installer's invoice with the warranty paperwork.
- Most rebate programs pay against a licensed installer's invoice and the unit's AHRI certificate.
- Tell us where the job is and we help you find a licensed technician who works on owner-supplied equipment.
What comes in the box
A system is the outdoor unit and the indoor unit or units, each with its manual and the manufacturer's warranty document.
- Line sets, wall brackets or pads, disconnects and covers are not sold on the site right now. Call and we quote the lengths and parts your install needs with your order.
- A 4-way ceiling cassette needs its ceiling panel, sold separately; the cassette's page offers the right one.

Utilities and states pay for efficient heat pumps, and the amount depends on where you live. The figures come from published utility and state program data.
Programs are on file in 45 states. The largest: California up to $10,625, New York up to $10,000 and New Hampshire up to $9,000.
Most programs pay after installation, against a licensed installer's invoice and the unit's AHRI certificate. Amounts come from published program data and change, so confirm with your utility before you count on one.

Find an installer03How an order works
From room sizes to a working system.
All sales are final, so the work happens up front: the size, the pairing, and a person checking the order.
Size the rooms
Enter each room's size, ceiling height, insulation and sun. The builder turns that into a load for every room.
Pick an approved system
You only see combinations Cooper & Hunter approves.
Request a quote, and it ships
A person prices the system, checks the pairing and follows up once.
Arrived damaged? We handle it
If anything arrives damaged, call us the same day with photos. We handle the claim and get a replacement moving.
How claims workThe full manufacturer warranty
Every unit is new, sold by an authorized dealer, and carries the manufacturer's full warranty. If a unit fails, we open the claim and ship the covered parts.
Warranty policyAll sales are final
Once an order is confirmed it cannot be returned, exchanged or cancelled for a refund. Damage on arrival is a claim we handle, and a defect is a warranty claim.
Why sales are finalA person checks every order
A person checks the pairing on every order and calls if something does not add up.

04Before you order
Questions? That is what the phone is for.
How do I know what size I need?
Use the system builder: enter the rooms and it sizes each one and shows only manufacturer-approved combinations. For vaulted ceilings, sunrooms or very old houses, call and we will size it by hand.
Can I install a mini split myself?
Mounting, wiring and running the line set are within reach of a capable DIYer. The refrigerant connection, vacuum and charge should be done by a licensed HVAC technician in most states, and most warranties require it. We can point you to an installer in your area.
Can I return a unit?
No. All sales are final, so size it right first: the builder and the sizing guide are free, and a person confirms the pairing on every order. If anything arrives damaged, we handle the claim for you, and defects are covered by the manufacturer warranty.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes. Every system ships to all 50 states.
