Buying guide

Heating through a real winter

Hyper Heat is Cooper & Hunter's cold-climate line, in single-zone (Hyper Outdoor) and multi-zone (Hyper Heat) outdoor units. The spec sheets we carry for these units rate heating operation down to -22 °F outdoors, where the standard multi-zone units are rated to -13 °F. Check the rating on the page of the unit you pick.

In a northern house the heating load is usually the bigger number, and it decides the outdoor unit. Utility rebates for cold-climate heat pumps vary by state; the rebate finder on each outdoor unit's page checks your ZIP.

Right now this page lists 20 products: 10 single-zone outdoor units and 10 multi-zone outdoor units. Sizes run from 6,000 to 55,000 BTU, with SEER2 ratings from 18 to 27.4. Every unit with a listed voltage runs on 208–230 V.

Common questions

Can I install a mini split myself?

Mounting, wiring and running the line set are within reach of a capable DIYer. The refrigerant connection, vacuum and charge should be done by a licensed HVAC technician in most states, and most warranties require it. We can point you to an installer in your area.

How do I know what size I need?

Use the system builder: enter the rooms and it sizes each one and shows only manufacturer-approved combinations. For vaulted ceilings, sunrooms or very old houses, call and we will size it by hand.

Do you ship nationwide?

Yes. Every system ships to all 50 states.

Can I return a unit?

No. All sales are final, so size it right first: the builder and the sizing guide are free, and a person confirms the pairing on every order. If anything arrives damaged, we handle the claim for you, and defects are covered by the manufacturer warranty.
