Approved pairings

The outdoor units these heads pair with.

A head needs an outdoor unit. These are the manufacturer-approved outdoor units for the heads in this collection, the most-paired first. Each product page lists its own pairings.

Buying guide

Before you buy a single-zone system

A single-zone mini split is one outdoor unit and one indoor head joined by a line set through a three-inch hole in the wall. There is no ductwork, and every unit here both heats and cools. The head comes as a wall mount, a floor or ceiling unit, a ceiling cassette or a slim duct unit that hides above a closet, so the room decides the style as much as the size.

Size comes from the room: about 20 BTU per square foot with 8 ft ceilings and average insulation, more for sun, vaulted ceilings or a kitchen. A 6,000 BTU head suits a small bedroom; 36,000 BTU covers an open floor plan. 115 V units run on a standard circuit, 208 to 230 V units need a dedicated breaker, and the final refrigerant connection should be made by a licensed technician.

Every system is a manufacturer-approved pairing, and a person checks the pairing on the order before it leaves. Sales are final, so if the room is unusual, call and we size it by hand.

Common questions

Can I install a mini split myself?

Mounting, wiring and running the line set are within reach of a capable DIYer. The refrigerant connection, vacuum and charge should be done by a licensed HVAC technician in most states, and most warranties require it. We can point you to an installer in your area.

How do I know what size I need?

Use the system builder: enter the rooms and it sizes each one and shows only manufacturer-approved combinations. For vaulted ceilings, sunrooms or very old houses, call and we will size it by hand.

Do you ship nationwide?

Yes. Every system ships to all 50 states.

Can I return a unit?

No. All sales are final, so size it right first: the builder and the sizing guide are free, and a person confirms the pairing on every order. If anything arrives damaged, we handle the claim for you, and defects are covered by the manufacturer warranty.
